Which gas-scooter to choose ?

Crazy about Tuning

As in many other mechanical sports, the tuning has been quickly develloped in the world of gas-scooter. Still, it has the great advantage to remain very affordable and quite simple (since most of the engines used are derivated from weed-whackers), but also to produce some rather spectacular results both in terms of power (featurin around 15hp for a ride under 20kg) and in terms of design.

Here is our selection of the best models we have encountered on internet, the strings of text in bold being in fact links:

Okuda's Racing

This gas-scooter has been entirely built by Harry okuda in his garage. It is powered by a Polini pocketbike engine that devellop around 9hp, this goes along with a Nitrous Oxyde injection system (such systems are more famous under the brand name NOS). To manage to actually drive it at speed beyond 60mph, it features a steering dampener, and a wheelie bar.
More pictures can be seen on the website of Harry Okuda

Firestarter

This scooter is owned by our friend Nilson, AKA RacerX. It has been modified from the frame of a V3 to which has been added in a very professional way (the liquid cooling pipes are made of copper and fixed throughout the frame, a rear disc brake has been added with a custom disc rotor...) a liquid cooled Polini Pocketbike engine. This work has been done by Scootersmith, a famous scooter preparator. See a video of Firestarter (realised by scootersmith).

XB60
This electric "Monster" is the fruit of the work's of another of our friend, Randy, AKA Xtra. Built entirely from scratch by randy (who also seemed to have designed and built his own competition car), it is made of steel and of the best parts available (you will notice the front assembly derived from a Bigboy V6. The specifications are rather amazing, and everything have obviously been seriously oversized to handle a peak power (not constant) of over 35hp develloped by an E-tek engine coupled to 5 batteries feeding 60 volts.
Batteries which get recharged in a mere 45 minutes...It seems that so far it hasnt been pushed to its top speed, since Randy is having issues to tame the beast :D It is indeed pointless to speak of a price at this level...
